Why Do The Components of The Traveling Parts of Rotary Drilling RIGS Wear Out

As the "underground pioneer" in infrastructure projects, the rotary drilling rig's traveling part bears the weight of the entire machine and enables operation movement, which is a key link to ensure construction efficiency. However, during long-term high-intensity operations, the components of the walking parts often experience wear and tear, which not only affects the stability of equipment operation but may also increase maintenance costs. The causes of wear and tear can be specifically analyzed from the following six points.

1. Ground environmental impact: Rotary drilling RIGS often operate in complex sites such as construction sites and mines. The ground is frequently filled with crushed stones and protruding hard objects. When moving, the components repeatedly collide and squeeze with obstacles, which directly causes the surface material to peel off and accelerates wear. Especially when moving on uneven ground, the impact force is greater and the wear rate increases significantly.


2. Excessive load capacity: The walking parts need to support the weight of the entire machine. If overloading is frequently carried out during construction or if they stay on an inclined ground for a long time, causing uneven local force distribution, the internal stress of the components will exceed the design tolerance value, leading to metal fatigue wear. In severe cases, deformation and cracking may occur.


3. Failure of the lubrication system: The core components such as bearings and gears in the walking parts rely on lubricating oil to reduce friction. If the lubricating grease is not added in time, the type does not match, or the sealing parts are damaged, causing grease leakage and impurities to invade, it will directly cause dry friction between the components, resulting in severe wear in a short period of time.


4. Material defects of components: For some low-end or aging walking components, if the metal material used does not meet the strength and wear resistance standards, or if there are precision errors during production and processing, under the same working conditions, wear marks will appear faster than those of high-quality components, reducing the overall service life.


5. Improper operating habits: If the operator frequently accelerates and brakes sharply, or fails to decelerate when turning, it will cause the traveling components to be subjected to excessive torque and impact force instantaneously. In addition, keeping the equipment in a semi-clutch state for a long time while moving it will also increase the friction and wear between components.


6. Lack of daily maintenance: If the moving parts are not cleaned and inspected regularly, dirt, sand and other debris will accumulate in the gaps of the components, constantly grinding the surface of the components as the equipment operates. At the same time, if the vulnerable parts in the early stage of wear are not replaced in time, it will lead to the expansion of faults and cause chain wear of related components.
