Rotary drilling RIGS play a crucial role in drilling operations in various construction projects, and the torque of the power head is like its "source of power", with its value directly affecting the construction efficiency and quality. What kind of torque is the most suitable? Here is a detailed analysis for you.

2

1.Torque is determined based on geological conditions: When working in soft soil layers such as silt and clay, where the soil is soft, a torque of 150-250 kN·m can easily cut. For instance, the Sany SR150 with a torque of 180kN·m performs exceptionally well in the soft soil area of Lingang, Shanghai. If there is a sand layer, the torque demand will increase slightly, with 250-350 kN·m being appropriate. The 280kN·m torque of Zoomlion ZR280 is just right for pressurizing the sand layer.

2. Adjust torque according to the change of pile diameter: The pile diameter is positively correlated with the torque. A pile diameter of 600-800mm and a torque of 150-200kN ·m are sufficient. When the pile diameter is expanded to 800-1200mm, the torque needs to be increased to 200-280kN ·m. If the pile diameter exceeds 1500mm, it often requires dual power heads and a torque of over 400kN·m to meet the demand.

3. High torque requirements for rock embedding operations: When drilling into hard rock layers such as granite and sandstone, the torque needs to be ≥350kN·m due to the hardness of the rock. The torque of the SWDM550 from Sunward Intelligent exceeds 500kN·m, demonstrating its advantages in the construction of tight sandstone. It can efficiently break rocks and ensure the progress of drilling.

4. Balance efficiency and equipment lifespan: Insufficient torque, slow drilling, long-term high-load equipment, prone to wear and tear; Excessive torque, although highly efficient, has a significant impact on components such as drill pipes and power heads, reducing the service life of the equipment. The appropriate torque can balance the two. For instance, in medium-density sandstone, a torque of 300-450 kN·m can not only ensure the speed but also protect the equipment.

5. Reference drilling rig model compatible torque: Different models of drilling RIGS have compatible torque ranges. Sany SR125-C10, maximum drilling diameter 1300mm, rated output torque of power head 130kN·m; The torque of XCMG XR180E is 200kN·m. When selecting the model, precise matching is required for specific construction scenarios and geological conditions.

6. Considering the construction process: When full casing drilling is carried out, the casing follow-up depth is closely related to the torque of the power head. A large torque is conducive to the casing's penetration. Some special processes have requirements for the continuity and stability of torque, and the torque parameters should be flexibly adjusted according to the actual process.

In conclusion, to determine the most suitable torque for the power head of a rotary drilling rig, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as geology, pile diameter, rock strata, equipment, and construction techniques, find the convergence point, enable the rotary drilling rig to perform at its best, and facilitate the efficient and high-quality advancement of the project.
