In the daily maintenance of rotary drilling RIGS, penetrant testing can accurately detect surface defects of components, ensuring the safe operation of the equipment. However, improper usage methods can affect the test results. Now, I will share with you the correct usage steps of penetrant.
1. Clean the surface: First, thoroughly remove oil stains, rust and other impurities from the surface of the components to be inspected of the rotary drilling rig with a cleaning agent, and then dry it with a clean cloth to ensure that the inspection area is clean and free of residue.
2. Apply the penetrant: Spray the penetrant evenly about 15-20 centimeters away from the inspection surface to ensure full coverage. Wait for 5-10 minutes to allow the penetrant to fully penetrate the defect.
3. Remove excess penetrant: Use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off the excess penetrant on the surface, then gently wipe with a cloth dipped in cleaning agent. Be careful not to over-wipe to avoid the penetrant being removed from the defect.
4. Spray the developer: After the surface is dry, spray the developer at the same distance to form a uniform white film. Wait for 3 to 5 minutes to allow the penetrant in the defect area to fully adsorb and show.
5. Observe defects: Carefully observe under bright light. If there are traces of red or other colors, it is the location of the defect. Mark the position and record the shape and size of the defect.
6. Residue removal: After the inspection is completed, thoroughly remove the residual penetrant and developer on the surface of the components with a cleaning agent to prevent corrosion to the equipment.
Mastering the correct usage method of penetrant can help us promptly identify potential hazards in the components of rotary drilling RIGS and ensure the efficient and stable operation of the equipment. In daily inspections, strictly follow these steps to make the equipment detection more accurate and reliable.
