How To Repair And Reuse The Worn Drill Bit of A Second-hand Rotary Drilling Rig?

In the construction of rotary drilling RIGS, the drill bit is the core component. The drill bits of second-hand rotary drilling RIGS, due to their longer usage time, are more prone to wear and tear. If new drill bits are directly replaced, the cost will increase. However, reasonably repairing and reusing worn drill bits can not only save expenses but also improve the utilization rate of equipment, which has important practical significance.

1. Wear degree assessment: First, remove the worn drill bit from the drilling rig and carefully inspect key parts such as the cutting teeth, cutter head, and drill pipe connection of the drill bit. Based on wear marks, dimensional changes, etc., determine whether the wear is mild, moderate or severe, providing a basis for the formulation of subsequent repair plans.


2. Cleaning and pretreatment: Use a high-pressure water gun to rinse off dirt, sand, stones and other impurities on the surface of the drill bit. For stubborn stains, a special cleaning agent can be used for wiping. Afterwards, the drill bit should be dried to prevent moisture from affecting the subsequent repair operations, and at the same time, check for any hidden cracks or deformations.


3. Repair or replacement of cutting teeth: If the cutting teeth are only slightly worn, surfacing welding technology can be used to replenish the worn parts and restore their original shape and size. If the cutting teeth are severely worn, cracked or fall off, new cutting teeth need to be replaced. When replacing, make sure they match the original model and are firmly installed.


4. Tool head repair: If there are wear depressions on the surface of the tool head, they can be repaired by surfacing wear-resistant materials to enhance the wear resistance of the tool head. If the cutter head is deformed, professional equipment should be used for correction to ensure the flatness and roundness of the cutter head and avoid affecting the drilling accuracy.


5. Repair of drill pipe connection: Check whether the threads at the drill pipe connection are worn or stripped. Minor wear can be repaired by re-tapping, while severe wear requires replacement of the connection components. After repair, apply special grease to ensure the sealing and flexibility of the connection parts.


6. Post-repair inspection and test drilling: After the repair is completed, inspect the overall dimensions of the drill bit and the connection conditions of each component to ensure they meet the usage standards. Subsequently, a trial drilling operation was carried out to observe the stability of the drill bit during the drilling process, the drilling efficiency, etc., and confirm that the repair effect met the standards.
