How To Reduce The Wire Rope Wear of Rotary Drilling RIGS?

Steel wire rope is a key load-bearing component for the lifting and drilling operations of rotary drilling RIGS. Its wear rate directly affects the safety of equipment operation and the cost of operation and maintenance. In daily operations, problems such as wear and tear, rust, and fatigue fracture can accelerate the loss of steel wire ropes. It is necessary to extend their service life through standardized operation and regular maintenance to prevent sudden fractures from causing safety accidents.

1. Select steel wire ropes of appropriate specifications and quality: According to the rated lifting capacity and working conditions of the drilling rig, choose steel wire ropes that meet the strength standards to avoid using low-specification ropes to bear excessive loads. Give priority to using galvanized or plastic-coated anti-corrosion steel wire ropes to enhance rust resistance and reduce the causes of wear and tear from the source.


2. Ensure the normal condition of the drum and pulley: Regularly check whether the rope grooves of the drum and pulley are smooth, and whether there is any wear, deformation or cracks. When the wear of the rope grooves exceeds the standard, repair or replace them in time to prevent the irregular rope grooves from causing local compression and accelerated wear of the steel wire rope. At the same time, ensure that the drum and pulley rotate flexibly without any jamming.


3. Standardize the winding and unwinding operations of steel wire ropes: When lifting or lowering operations, ensure that the steel wire ropes are evenly wound on the drum to avoid overlapping and squeezing. It is strictly prohibited to forcibly twist or bend the steel wire rope when it is in a taut state. When retracting the rope, the position of the drill pipe should be adjusted simultaneously to prevent the steel wire rope from rubbing against the equipment components.


4. Regular lubrication and cleaning maintenance: Conduct a comprehensive lubrication of the steel wire rope once a week, using dedicated steel wire rope grease to ensure that the grease penetrates to the rope core and reduces friction and wear between the steel wires. After the operation, promptly remove the soil, sand, stones and other debris on the surface of the steel wire rope to prevent impurities from embedding into the rope strands and accelerating wear.


5. Control the working load and avoid impact force: Overloading operation is strictly prohibited. When lifting, operate slowly and steadily to avoid sudden start or braking that may cause the steel wire rope to bear impact loads. If the drill gets stuck during the drilling process, the obstacle should be removed first and then the drill should be lifted slowly. It is strictly forbidden to forcibly pull the steel wire rope to prevent it from breaking or deforming due to excessive force in an instant.


6. Regular inspection and timely replacement of damaged steel wire ropes: Before daily operation, check whether the steel wire rope has broken wires, broken strands, or excessive diameter wear. If the number of broken wires reaches the upper limit of the safety standard, or if there is severe rust or deformation, stop using it immediately and replace it with a new rope. Do not take any chances and continue working.
