Groundwater is a common "roadblock" for rotary drilling RIGS during construction. If not handled properly, it can easily lead to problems such as hole collapse and buried drilling, affecting construction efficiency and safety. Mastering the methods to deal with groundwater is of vital importance for ensuring the smooth operation of rotary drilling RIGS.

1

1. Advanced dewatering method: Before construction, the groundwater level is lowered through methods such as well point dewatering to keep the operation surface in a waterless or shallow water environment. This method can reduce the interference of groundwater from the source and create stable construction conditions for drilling RIGS.

2. Mud wall protection method: Special mud is injected into the hole to form a mud skin that isolates groundwater and balances the pressure on the hole wall at the same time. Mud can also suspend drill cuttings and protect the hole wall from collapsing, making it suitable for various soil layers.

3. Casing follow-up method: Use a steel casing to follow the drill string synchronously to directly prevent groundwater from flowing into the hole. This method has a remarkable effect on loose strata and can effectively prevent the instability of the hole wall.

4. Water-stop curtain method: Continuous water-stop structures, such as high-pressure jet grouting piles, are set up around the foundation pit to prevent external groundwater from seeping in. It is suitable for projects that have strict restrictions on precipitation or are sensitive to the surrounding environment.

5. Drainage and hole cleaning method: When drilling, use a water pump to promptly drain the accumulated water in the hole. After the hole is formed, clean it again to ensure the bottom of the hole is dry. It is easy to operate and is often used in situations where there is less groundwater.

6. Select the appropriate drill bit: For water-rich strata, choose a drill bit with a drainage channel to reduce the resistance of groundwater to drilling. A reasonable drill bit can enhance the efficiency of slag discharge and reduce the risk of stuck drill.

In conclusion, when dealing with groundwater during the operation of rotary drilling RIGS, it is necessary to select appropriate methods based on geological conditions, groundwater conditions, etc. Sometimes, multiple methods need to be used in combination. Only by scientifically treating groundwater can we ensure that rotary drilling RIGS complete construction tasks efficiently and safely.
