How Should The Engine of A Rotary Drilling Rig Be Protected?

The engine of a rotary drilling rig, as the core power source of the equipment, directly determines the construction efficiency and equipment lifespan. Especially in complex geological operations, the engine often faces challenges such as dust and load fluctuations. Scientific protection can effectively reduce downtime due to faults and lower operation and maintenance costs.

1. Regularly check the condition of the engine oil: Engine oil is the "blood" of the engine. It is necessary to check the oil quantity and quality at regular intervals as per the user manual. If the oil is found to be cloudy, emulsified or below the mark, it should be replaced or replenished in time to avoid insufficient lubrication causing component wear. At the same time, when changing the engine oil, the oil filter element should be replaced simultaneously to ensure the filtration effect.


2. Strictly control the quality and cleanliness of fuel: High-quality fuel that meets the engine grade should be selected to prevent impurities in low-quality fuel from clogging fuel injectors or damaging fuel pumps. Before refueling, the fuel tank opening should be cleaned. Regularly drain the accumulated water and sediment at the bottom of the fuel tank to prevent water from entering the engine and causing malfunctions.


3. Maintain the air filtration system well: The working environment of the rotary drilling rig is dusty. The air filter element should be checked weekly. If a large amount of dust adheres to the surface, it can be blown clean in reverse with compressed air. When the filter element is severely damaged or clogged, it needs to be replaced immediately to prevent dust from entering the cylinder and accelerating the wear of the piston and cylinder wall.


4. Reasonably control the engine's working load: Avoid keeping the engine at full load or overload for a long time. After starting, let it idle for 3 to 5 minutes until the water and oil temperatures reach the normal range before commencing operation. Before shutting down, the engine also needs to idle for a period of time to gradually cool down and reduce thermal stress damage to the components.


5. Regularly inspect the cooling system: Check the coolant level every week. If it is insufficient, add the same type of coolant in time. Do not directly add tap water to prevent scale formation. Clean the radiator every six months to remove dust and debris from its surface to ensure effective heat dissipation and prevent serious engine malfunctions such as cylinder pulling and bearing seizure due to overheating.


6. Proper storage and idle maintenance: When the equipment is idle for a long time, all the engine oil and coolant in the engine should be replaced, the fuel tank switch should be turned off, the battery should be removed and charged regularly. The storage environment should be dry and well-ventilated. Dust covers should be placed at the air intake and exhaust ports to prevent debris from entering the interior.
