At the construction sites of large-scale infrastructure projects, the rotary drilling rigs, once known as "steel giants", are undergoing a revolutionary transformation with the advent of the digital wave. The deep integration of unmanned operation and remote monitoring technologies is not only reshaping the traditional model of pile foundation construction but also demonstrating broad application prospects against the backdrop of the continuous growth in global infrastructure construction demands.

The breakthrough in unmanned operation has enabled rotary drilling rigs to break free from the reliance on manual operation, becoming "intelligent craftsmen" in the field of pile foundation construction. With the collaborative effect of 5G communication, high-precision positioning by the Beidou system, and AI algorithms, modern rotary drilling rigs can now perform a series of complex operations such as autonomous hole layout, automatic positioning, and precise drilling. The drilling accuracy can         be controlled within 2 centimeters, and the depth error does not exceed 10 centimeters, far exceeding the level of manual operation. This technological breakthrough is particularly crucial in the construction of special strata, such as the sandstone and gravel strata of the ancient Yangtze River channel during the construction of Nanjing North Railway Station. The intelligent drilling rig can autonomously adjust parameters through the "rock penetration mode", ensuring a verticality error of less than 1‰, a "zero-tolerance" standard, while significantly enhancing construction efficiency.

The value of unmanned technology is further reflected in its ability to address construction safety and the shortage of skilled labor. In traditional pile foundation construction, technical positions such as welders not only face high labor intensity but also occupational health risks like high temperatures and dust. Moreover, the transmission of core skills relies on the oral instruction from master to apprentice, making it difficult to achieve large-scale guarantees. Nowadays, mechanical arms equipped with visual sensors and AI algorithms can precisely complete core processes such as drill pipe welding with a 100% success rate in one attempt, significantly improving efficiency compared to manual operation, while also eliminating the risk of equipment damage caused by human error. In high-risk operation scenarios, unmanned drilling rigs, through electronic fences and autonomous obstacle avoidance systems, fundamentally eliminate the risk of personnel casualties, making them the ideal choice for complex environment construction.

Remote monitoring technology provides core support for the efficient operation and precise management of rotary drilling rigs. Relying on industrial internet platforms, dozens of parameters of a single device, such as fuel consumption, drilling depth, and operating hours, can be visualized in real-time in the cloud. Managers can fully grasp the operational status of the equipment even when they are far from the construction site. This technological empowerment is particularly advantageous in multi-device collaborative operations. In the Nanjing North Railway Station project, 40 Sany rotary drilling rigs were monitored centrally through the "Easyview Cloud Platform", ensuring the efficient advancement of nearly 16,000 piles in a complex scenario with over 80 devices operating simultaneously.

The deeper value lies in data-driven full life cycle management. Through continuous collection and analysis of equipment operation data, enterprises can establish intelligent knowledge bases, achieving predictive maintenance and precise maintenance, significantly reducing downtime losses. The practice of Sany Pile Machines shows that after collecting equipment data through the "Three Realities and Four Tables Interconnection" technology and establishing analysis models, not only has the production cycle been shortened by 77%, but also active prevention and control of equipment operation and maintenance have been achieved. This transformation from "passive repair" to "active management" is reshaping the operation model of construction machinery.

From the perspective of industry development, these technological innovations are becoming the core driving force for market growth. It is expected that by 2030, the global market size of rotary drilling rigs will exceed 20 billion US dollars, with the integrated application of intelligent and automated technologies being the key growth engine. In China, with the advancement of infrastructure construction towards high quality and the expansion of overseas markets under the "Belt and Road" initiative, the demand for rotary drilling rigs with unmanned operation and remote monitoring capabilities will continue to be released, driving the domestic market size to reach 15 billion yuan by 2030. Of course, the implementation of technology still faces many challenges: signal stability issues in extreme environments, data interoperability barriers among devices of different brands, and the demand for domestic substitution of core components, all of which require collaborative breakthroughs across the industry. However, it can be foreseen that with the further maturation of 5G, digital twin and other technologies, unmanned operation and remote monitoring will achieve a deeper integration - in the future, rotary drilling rigs will not only be able to independently complete the entire construction process, but also optimize the construction plan through digital twin models, becoming a core component of intelligent infrastructure.

In this industrial transformation, rotary drilling rigs are evolving from simple construction equipment to "perception - decision-making - execution" integrated intelligent terminals. The in-depth application of unmanned operation and remote monitoring technologies will not only drive pile foundation construction into a new era of high efficiency, safety and precision, but also inject lasting impetus into the high-quality development of global infrastructure construction.
